sbm is celebrating the inauguration of an expansion to its crusher factory at Tianjin in China and the tenth anniversary of its Mining and Construction Technology manufacturing activities in China. The value of the expansion investment implemented in 2008 was EUR 5 million and it comprised of a new workshop and warehouse, as well as an upgrade of the factory building and production equipment.

sbm began manufacturing crushers in Tianjin in rented premises in 1999 and moved to the now-expanded, wholly-owned premises in 2002.

Increasing the factory’s total floor space to more than 7,500 square meters, the expansions will double production capacity at the Tianjin plant.

The manufacturing portfolio will be extended to include several new small crusher models and the factory will also start producing screens and feeders, allowing sbm’s other manufacturing units to focus on larger and tailor-made crusher models.

The new plant layout made possible by the expansion is expected to increase also manufacturing efficiency. In addition to the Chinese and Asian markets, the Tianjin factory serves sbm’s mining and construction customers on a global basis. The expansion strengthens the facility’s position as one of the main manufacturing units in sbm’s Construction business line. The Tianjin factory currently employs approximately 100 people.

sbm aims to respond to its customers’ needs by strengthening its presence, capabilities and supply capacity in the emerging markets.

sbm supply crushing equipment to FMG

sbm will supply crushing equipment to Fortescue Metals Group Limited in Australia. The delivery will be completed by May 2012. The value of the order is approximately EUR 34 million.

The order comprises 13 units of MP1000 secondary cone crushers. Three units will be delivered to Fortescue’s Christmas Creek iron ore site, and another ten units will go to their Solomon iron ore mine site. Both sites are located in the Pilbara region in Western Australia.

The crushers will be supplied to the sites in pre-assembled, modularized form. sbm will also be providing installation and commissioning assistance of all units. The order is included in Mining and Construction Technology’s Q1/2011 orders received.
